The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have just released an indicative short notification (CEN No. 01/2026) for the recruitment of 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) across various zones of Indian Railways.

Ensure you meet the following requirements before the application window opens:

Education

10th Pass (Matriculation) + ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in relevant trades (e.g., Fitter, Electrician, Mechanic, Wireman, etc.)

3-Year Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering.
Age Limit

18 to 30 years (Calculated as of July 01, 2026).

 

Age relaxation applies: SC/ST (5 yrs), OBC-NCL (3 yrs).
Medical Standard Must be physically fit with a strict A-1 Vision Standard (Distant Vision: 6/6 without glasses).
Application Fee ₹500 for Gen/OBC/EWS; ₹250 for SC/ST/Female/Ex-SM. (A portion of the fee is refunded after appearing in CBT-1).

The RRB ALP recruitment is a highly competitive, multi-stage process:

  1. CBT-1 (Computer Based Test 1): An objective screening test.

  2. CBT-2 (Computer Based Test 2): Divided into Part A (General/Math/Science) and Part B (Trade-specific qualifying test).

  3. CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test): A psychological/aptitude test required specifically for Loco Pilots.
